What is a Resident Assistant?

RA's serve as a floor leader and paid staff member for a University's residence hall. The main goal is to provide a enjoyable floor atmosphere to allow residents to have the ability to grow and reach their max potential.

What activities does an RA do?

I served as the East Hall Third Floor RA which is part of the Engineering LLC which means we cater to engineering students specifically. This provides a great opportunity for me to give advice about common classes and how to get through the grind of the engineering curriculum. I often talk about non academic issues  like personal health, life advice, financial management, as well as general discussions that arise from common talk. Instead of general sit down conversations, my residents and I usually go out to eat or organize a cookout or some sports game. On rare occasions, i have a 1 on 1 conversation with a resident about personal conflicts/issues. This describes the fun part of the job but there are other responsibilities include on-duties, keeping the peace, and reporting any incidents.
